Global Halal Industry Platform to opentomorrow in Dubai

The two-day platform is expected to belaunched by Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy.

DUBAI- The third Global Halal IndustryPlatform, organised by the Emirates Authority for Standardisation andMetrology, ESMA, will open tomorrow in Dubai with the participation of 300experts and specialists from around the world.

The two-day platform is expected to belaunched by Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy and Chairman ofESMA, and will be attended by experts and officials, who will discuss the keychallenges facing the international halal system and how to overcome them, aswell as innovations that will achieve balance between growth in the industryand compliance with Islamic Sharia.

Abdullah Al Maeeni, Director-General ofESMA, said that the platform’s third edition will witness importantdiscussions, to be raised for the first time, on the role of banks in theinnovation and empowerment of the halal industry, and the role of the media inintroducing the public to the halal industry, as well as hearing from a varietyof key officials from the banking and financial sector.

He noted that the platform was transformedlast year into a specialist international initiative, and the current editionwill help ensure the creation of diverse innovations in the halal industry,including in halal food, hospitality and tourism, beauty products andcosmetics. International experts will also meet on an annual basis in Dubai todiscuss their achievements and confront the challenges of the previous year, headded.

The forum’s sessions will include the roleof the media in informing the public about the importance of the halalindustry, especially for Islamic communities abroad, and will feature the experienceof media company CNN in establishing a department that specialise in reportingon the Islamic economy, he added.
