KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian IslamicDevelopment Department (Jakim) has handed out halal certificates to 7,204 companiesas of January this year.

 

Minister in the Prime Minister’sDepartment, Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the department had alsoopened international certification opportunities for contract manufacturing andoverseas factories to obtain Malaysia’s halal certification.

 

Jakim according to him, had recognised 75Foreign halal certification bodies and halal authorities from 43 countries.

 

Halal industry has gained interestthroughout the world, not only Muslim countries but also but also other countrieswith Muslim populations.

 

Consumers are interested in halal productsbecause it certified that the preparation of the food is safe and hygienic forconsumption,” he told reporters during the pre-launch event of Global HalalSummit (GHas) 2019 themed ‘Halal Connecting the World here on Monday night.

 

Mujahid said GHas which was previouslyknown as World Halal Week, will start from April 1 until 6 at the Grand HyattHotel, Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).

 

GHas 2019 will be led by Jakim andcoordinated by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and Ministry ofEconomy Affairs.

 

The organiser according to Mujahid hastargeted 3,000 participants from 130 countries for GHas 2019, he said addingthat, the organiser had lined up six main programmes during the summit withfour spearheaded by the department.

 

Among the programmes are internationalhalal training capacity development program, Halal certification bodiesconvention, international Halal board general assembly and global Halalinternational congress.

 

The other two events are World HalalConference, organised by Halal Industry Development Corporation and theMalaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) by the Malaysia External TradeDevelopment Corporation. ? Bernama
